DETECTIVES investigating a fire behind a former pub are appealing for people with information to come forward.
Firefighters were called to North Railway Street, Seaham, at about 2pm on Saturday afternoon after three cars were engulfed in a blaze.
Flames spread to the back yard of the former Noah’s Ark pub.
Group manager John Walkden, of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Because of the severity of the fire it quickly spread to the rear of the building itself.
“Firefighters were on the scene in minutes and did a fantastic job of controlling the fire and stopping it from spreading any further.”
Crews left the scene at 3.45pm.
Detective Sergeant Malcolm Bell said: “It was in the middle of the afternoon so we would like to hear from anyone who saw anything.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call Peterlee CID on 0191-375-2611.
