A PROFESSIONAL boxer is donating his fight purse to the campaign supporting five-year-old cancer victim Bradley Lowery.

Jordan King, an undefeated super middleweight fighter, from Hetton-le-Hole, has been moved by the plight of the North-East youngster who is fighting neuroblastoma.

Alan King, Jordan’s father, said: “Young Bradley has touched the hearts of everybody, not just here in the North-East, but around the globe.

“With us being in Hetton, Bradley is just up the road in Blackhall so it made a lot of sense that we could help out as much as we could as it’s a situation that’s affected us all.”

Jordan King, who fights on the Steve Wraith promotion at Hardwick Hall Hotel on April 22, has only fought once in the past eighteen months, but has won all seven of his fights to date, claiming two stoppages.

The event, named ‘Winner Takes It All’ is headlined by a Northern Area title fight between rivals and former friends, Daniel Cope and Billy Snaith.

Promoter Steve Wraith, who has himself raised much-needed funds for a number of charities over the years, said he was only too happy to allow this to happen on his show.

He added: “I’m delighted that Jordan King has chosen to support an extremely worthwhile cause.

“Bradley’s plight has touched everybody and we’re pleased that the boxing fraternity is taking its turn in helping a little star and get behind him just like football, horse racing, and other outlets have done over the past few months.”

With King taking a near-150 strong fan-base to Hardwick Hall, Mr Wraith said boxing fans, and Bradley, are in for a very special night.

Fight fans who cannot make it but would still like to donate can use online fundraising page set up by King and his family to help further the cause.

Bradley’s family recently announced medical experts have given him the go-ahead to fly to America for a dream holiday.

The family is hoping the youngster will be able to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences, such as swimming with dolphins in Florida and meet his favourite characters at the Walt Disney World theme park.

As a football mascot he recently led the England team out at Wembley for the World Cup qualifying game against Lithuania.

Since the fundraising campaign gained widespread publicity his family has formed a unique relationship with Sunderland football club, and especially striker Jermaine Defoe.

Last Saturday, Bradley was a special guest at the Grand National, where a special 41st place was created for him on the official racecard.

It has been a roller coaster ride though of late, because, earlier this month, his parents, Carl and Gemma, were told the treatment he has been receiving at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary is not working.

Lynn Murphy, campaign manager for Bradley Lowery Fight added: “We can’t thank people enough for their ongoing support and generosity towards Bradley.

“We’re very grateful for what Jordan has done here and we hope that he has a fantastic night himself and picks up a good win.”
