POLICE have arrested three teenagers following inquiries into the death of a 17-year-old girl at a music festival.

The arrests by Northumbria Police come as a result of inquiries by officers in Scotland following the death of Megan Bell, from Seaham, County Durham.

She was at the T in the Park event at Strathallan Castle when she died on Friday, July 8.

Two 18-year-old women and a 17-year-old boy, all from the Sunderland area, have been questioned on suspicion of supplying drugs.

All three have been released on bail until May.

A police spokesman said: “The arrests come after inquiries were carried out as a result of Megan’s death.”

An inquest review for the former St Anthony’s Girls’ Catholic Academy student, who had been due to begin work as an apprentice hairdresser on her return from the festival, was held on Monday.

The last hearing was told a report from Police Scotland was pending, but no details were given in relation to any investigations.

At the opening of the inquest it was revealed ecstasy was found in her system, but her family have said she was not a drug user.

Coroner Andrew Tweddle, sitting at the County Durham Coroner’s Court in Crook, has listed the next review date for Tuesday, May 2, unless it is possible to list a full hearing before that point.

Megan’s family and friends raised £3,000 at the weekend in her memory as part of Megan’s Rainbow Support Group.

There was a night of entertainment, an auction and raffle held at Dawdon Social Welfare Centre on Saturday.

The charity was set up by her grandmother, Jenny Bell, a Seaham Town and Durham County Councillor, to help counsel grieving families close to home.

Megan’s parents Chris, 44, and Lisa, 42, and her siblings Jenny, eight, and Maddy, ten, and brother Josh, 12, faced travelling to Hartlepool for support and eight months on, they are still waiting for help.

A second branch of the group, overseen by family friends Laura Ward and Gillian Graham, will raise funds to help loved ones who have lost a child cover funeral costs.

A charity football match featuring former Sunderland AFC players, boxers and mixed martial artists is being held on Saturday, June 3 and there will be a day of live entertainment, Music for Megan, on Terrace Green in Seaham on Saturday, June 10.
