A BUS company has unveiled a new service linking Horden, Peterlee and Shotton Colliery with Durham

Arriva North East’s new X24 service will run from Monday February 13, providing a regular, quick link between these places on Mondays to Saturdays - replacing service 24X that only runs once on schooldays.

The X24 is great for commuting into Durham, as most buses serve the city centre and Framwellgate Moor offering direct access to County Hall, University Hospital and New College. Buses will run along Blackhills Road and Northumberland Street in Horden (which are not currently served by Arriva), and will complete the journey from Peterlee to Durham in just 35-40 minutes.

Nick Knox, area managing director for Arriva North East said: “We are always exploring new opportunities and ways to improve the customer journey experience.

“We already run up to four buses per hour between Peterlee and Durham six days a week.

“This new express will give customers the opportunity to get there more quickly and conveniently.

“We hope further improvements in the area will encourage more people to hop on board”

There are some value fares too. A one-way ticket from Horden, Peterlee or Shotton Colliery to Durham costs just £4.40, and travellers can enjoy unlimited travel on Arriva buses in County Durham for only £25 per week.
