A COLLEGE which has undergone a multi-million pound redevelopment is looking for former students to take part in a special event.

East Durham College has invested £12.75m in the Houghall Campus in Durham, where it will be celebrating with an afternoon tea on Friday, January 13.

Throughout the project the college has been in contact with a number of former staff members and students to piece together an impressive archive of photos and memorabilia and to get a background of life at the campus throughout its history.

And they would like to extend these connections and hope to find more students and staff who have worked at the campus, formerly named the County Durham School of Agriculture, Durham Agricultural College and Houghall College.

A college spokesman said: "We would therefore like to invite any one with connections to the site to come and join us to help celebrate the opening.

"We invite guests to arrive any time after 2pm to have a look round and then join current staff for afternoon tea in the refectory at 4pm."

To help us planning and catering numbers, please could you RSVP to Mark.Reeve@eastdurham.ac.uk or by letter no later than Friday.

Former students are also asked to provide the years they started and left Houghall, so it can be included on name badges.

College principal Suzanne Duncan said: “This fantastic redevelopment has gone a great way to restoring Houghall to its former glory, and providing staff and students with a range of new facilities they can be proud of.

“The college will be celebrating its 80th anniversary next year and it’s with great optimism that we can look forward to the next 80 years at Houghall.

“I hope you can join us and I look forward to meeting you as we mark this historic day.”
