POLICE have spread Christmas cheer to little girl who had her bike stolen

Officers from Seaham became Santa for the day by giving a signed Sunderland football shirt to a ten-year-old victim of crime.

The North East Chamber of Commerce donated the shirt to the force hoping it could go to a worthy recipient for Christmas.

Elise Brunning, of Seaham, had her BMX Muddy Fox mountain bike stolen earlier this year. The bike was recovered by police but it was badly burnt and damaged.

Elise, whose family had received compensation following an accident, allowed her to use a small amount to get what she wanted and she bought the bike. She was devastated when it was stolen.

PC John Bowman of Seaham police said: “Elise’s bike was her pride and joy and she was heartbroken when she discovered she wouldn’t be getting it back.

“When we heard we had the chance to give her a signed shirt from her favourite team we jumped at the chance.

“Although we couldn’t get her bike back we hope this puts smile back in her face in time for Christmas. Elise has asked Santa Claus for a new bike for Christmas so we hope her Christmas wish comes true.”
