A CHARITY supporting people with learning disabilities has been given a cash boost from their local supermarket.

Sainsbury’s Local store in Seaham will today present a cheque of £1,000 to Shaw Trust’s Community Social Enterprise.

Shaw Trust Parkside, Seaham, is a horticultural social enterprise which offers training to adults.

The centre delivers horticultural and wood recycling wood services, which make products such as shelving and furniture, that are sold in its charity shops.

It also provides employability support, such as voluntary opportunities, placements and social skills training.

Sainsbury Local manager David Scarlett will present the cheque to the trust’s project manager in Seaham, Ken Hall, along with users of the enterprise centre.

Mr Scarlett said: “I am pleased to be presenting this cheque to Shaw Trust.

“The Parkside, Seaham centre has given so much to our local area, helping people back into work by offering a route to achieving skills through social enterprise.

“This is our way of thanking them for their hard work and the money raised will also help more local people to achieve greater independence.”

Ken Hall, Project Manager, Shaw Trust Seaham, said:

“We are delighted to have been selected as Sainbury’s Local Seaham’s Charity of the Year.

“We look forward to supporting local people with the funds raised by the staff at the local supermarket.”
