A NEW multi-screen cinema complex has enjoyed a bumper first month of attendances.

Since Cineworld opened, at Dalton Park, Murton, County Durham, on September 9, it has welcomed audiences of more than 16,000.

It has resulted in a number of “full-house” screenings during the opening month.

The cinema, part of a £45m expansion of the outlet shopping centre, is home to seven state-of-the-art screens, and has provided jobs for a total workforce of 28.

In its first month there have been 800-plus screenings of a total of 31 films, providing 72,000 minutes of big screen entertainment for cinema-goers.

They have consumed more than 7,000 drinks and no less than 190,000 kernels of popcorn.

General manager Nick Bashford said: “Over 16,000 people have come through our doors to experience Cineworld Dalton Park since opening last month and we’re absolutely thrilled with the response so far.”

He said advanced booking is advisable to ensure film fans do not miss out on current favourite The Girl on the Train and the forthcoming blockbuster Doctor Strange.

The complex has a range of offers, including weekly discounted Movies for Juniors, for just £2, on Saturdays, Sundays and during school holidays, as well as a National Union of Students’ discount.

Private venue hire of screens can also be arranged.

Tickets can be booked via www.cineworld/cinemas.co.uk/dalton-park, or by ringing 0191-526 6500.
