THUNDERSTORMS lit up the night skies across the region on Tuesday after the hottest September day in more than 100 years.
While the weather caused disruption for some, it was a chance for others to grab a camera and capture the spectacular scenes.
Award-winning weather photographer Paul Kingston of Newcastle-based North News & Pictures shot this incredible image as lightning lit up the night skies over Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, County Durham.
