A TEENAGER was arrested on Friday in connection with the death of a man in Kelloe, County Durham.

Durham Police confirmed that the 19-year-old had been arrested during an operation in the village of Ushaw Moor, near Durham.

A force spokesman said: ”A man has been arrested in the last 30 minutes on suspicion of the murder of Dale Arnold, in Kelloe on Wednesday afternoon.

“The 19-year-old man was arrested at an address in Ushaw Moor. He is now in police custody and will be questioned later today.”

Mr Arnold, 32, died after an incident in Front Street in the village shortly before 2pm on Wednesday, August 3.

A post mortem carried out yesterday by Home Office pathologist, Dr Nigel Cooper confirmed the cause of death was stab wounds.

It is thought a knife of some kind was used to inflict the fatal wounds but at this stage the weapon used has not been recovered.

A team of around 30 detectives and specialist staff are working on the case around the clock, based from the major crime team incident room at Chester-le-Street police station.

Dale Arnold, who died from stab wounds

Crime scene investigators have carried out forensic examinations of the scene and also in Mr Arnold’s house, in School Avenue and police searches continued for much of the day in the Kelloe area.

Specially-trained officers are working with and supporting Mr Arnold’s family.

On Friday they released two photos of him although at this stage, the family are said to be still in a state of shock and do not want to make any formal comment.

Mr Arnold, who was born in Durham and lived in Kelloe all his life, used to work as a technician for Sky TV but was forced to give up his job some time ago due to a medical condition.

He was keen on fitness and training sessions and could be seen locally every day, taking his dog, Max for a walk.

Det Supt Paul Goundry, the senior investigating officer, said: “We have been carrying out extensive enquiries, in Kelloe and other areas in a bid to trace our suspect.

"So far we have taken a number of witness statements and recovered cctv footage from several cameras which we hope may provide useful evidence.

“Local residents will see further police activity in the Kelloe area today but I would stress once again that we have no reason to believe there is any additional risk to any member of the public.

"I would urge anyone who has information to come forward and help us trace the person responsible.”
