ORGANISERS of an annual festival say the three-day community event was the biggest ever.
More than 22,000 people are thought to have visited Seaham Carnival from Friday to Sunday to enjoy the festival of music, film and fun.
The event also raised around £1,000 for Seaham Mayor’s chosen charities which will be distributed to local groups.
The free event was organised by Seaham Town Council.
Deputy town clerk Paul Fletcher said: “It was an amazing weekend, even better than expected.
“We were blessed with the weather we had. It was very warm but there were some refreshing cool periods when the cloud came over.”
The carnival got underway with the screening of Footloose and Billy Elliot on Friday.
Saturday included the children’s film Alvin and the Chipmunks, followed by the Seaham Music Academy playing Star Wars, before the Star Wars The Force Awakens was shown at 3pm.
Throughout the weekend there were live bands, a free climbing wall and penalty shootout on Terrace Green, along with the usual fairground rides, a craft marquee and stalls.
