A fund is being set up to offer East Durham children summer holiday activities, which also come with nutritious food.

Often, children who are well-fed during term time, when they receive a free two-course meal at school, but go hungry during the holidays.

Durham County Council’s East Durham Area Action Partnership is offering between £250 and £3,000 to feed youngsters while they play.

Principal AAP coordinator, Shealagh Pearce, said: “We are looking to build on the success of a similar scheme which in 2015 enabled 19 organisations to offer a wide range of fun activities to over 1,600 children, and serve 4,000 meals.”
