A HORSE was rescued after it became stuck in a ditch this morning (May 30).
The 15-hand mare was retrieved from a field drainage ditch in Filpoke Lane, Blackhall Colliery, County Durham.
A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed the service was called out just after 7.15am to attend the incident.
Two crews, one from Peterlee and one from Bishop Auckland assisted the animal rescue unit which used specialist equipment to rescue the distressed horse.
The spokesman said: “We understand the horse was not injured and was in a stable condition after the vet sedated it while we assisted getting it out of the ditch.”
All crews left the scene at 9am.
