SCHOOLCHILDREN have captured the beauty of the coast in a range of collage and ceramic works.

The creations by pupils of Acre Rigg Infants School, in Peterlee, have been unveiled in an exhibition entitled The Coast, at The Art Block in Church Street, Seaham.

Nearly 100 people attended the opening at the weekend.

Children produced the collage and ceramic work under the guidance of Jean Lowes and Victoria Leeks of the East Durham Artists’ Network (Edan).

Mrs Lowes said: “I spent about eight weeks with the children, during afternoon sessions.

“The work was done by Year Two children and connects with their curriculum. There were 48 young people taking part.

“The work is of a very high quality. The children were very expressive in the way they did the background.

“The relief work they did was really good, because it needs a lot of control.”

She added: “Our thanks go to the teachers and staff and all who were involved. The opening of the exhibition on Saturday was well supported.”

The Art Block is open from 11am to 3pm from Tuesday to Friday and from noon to 4pm on Saturday.
