A MOTORIST has been arrested in "bizarre" circumstances on suspicion of drink driving after being found apparently drunk outside a court and police station.

The man was found to be three times over the drink drive limit following during the incident which happened last night in Peterlee, County Durham.

A spokesman for Cleveland and Durham road policing unit said: "Most bizarre arrest for a while tonight.

"Vehicle seen by officers parked at side of Peterlee Magistrates' Court and at the rear of police station.

"The driver got out upon seeing police and walked into the rear yard of police station towards custody.

"Upon speaking to him he was struggling to speak due to his intoxication."

The man claimed he had got lost while on his way too Sunderland.

The spokesman added: "Not the best place to get lost buddy.

"As you can see he blew over 4 times drink drive limit.

"Now in cells till he is sober enough to be dealt with - probably next month."
