A FORMER East Durham College student has returned to talk to students about her new role in the airline industry.

Former travel and tourism student, Vanessa White, 19, of Murton, has recently started a new role working as cabin crew with low-cost airline Jet2.com.

Vanessa, who studied at the college between 2013 and 2015, went to work as a travel agent with Hays Travel, but then realised life behind the desk wasn’t for her and after a rigorous application and training process she started her new role with the Leeds-based Jet 2, in February.

She is based locally at Newcastle International Airport, but the role sees her travel all across Europe including mainland Spain and the Canary Islands.

Vanessa is enjoying her new job and praised her course at East Durham College for giving her the skills to get into the industry.

She said: “It was great to come back to the college and share my experiences with this new set of travel and tourism students.

“I have only been working with Jet 2 for a few months now but I love it. Every flight gives you different challenges to deal with and it’s a great experience.

“The course at the college was fantastic I really enjoyed my time here. I would recommend the travel and tourism courses at East Durham College to anyone looking to have a career in the industry.”

East Durham College lecturer in travel and tourism, Mandy Sert, added: “It’s always great to see past students go on to have careers in the industry.”
