A SCHOOL has been honoured for its commitment to equality for all pupils.
The Academy at Shotton Hall has been presented with the national Equalities Award for its work to promote equality and fairness and eliminate discrimination.
To gain the award, staff had to show how they promote equality and eliminate discrimination, including how they support children with special educational needs and LGBT students.
The award also recognises the exemplary work the Academy does outside normal lessons including encouraging learning outside the classroom and careers education.
Executive principal Lesley Powell said: “I became a teacher because I strongly believe that every child has an equal right to an excellent education. This belief is something that guides everything we do at Shotton Hall, where equality of opportunity and access to high quality teaching and learning is embedded into the entire curriculum.
“Every child has talent and it is up to us to seek out and nurture it, encouraging all students to have the highest aspirations for the future, regardless of their background”.
