A CHARITY that supplies emergency food parcels says it is receiving more requests from domestic violence victims.
The East Durham Trust says there has been a “significant increase”.
Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Ron Hogg is supporting the charity, helping it to continue its work.
Chief executive Malcolm Fallow said: “Sadly, with increased alcohol consumption and a number of other factors this time of the year appears to be leading to an increase in demand from domestic violence victims.
“Their needs are also more complex with individuals finding themselves fleeing from abuse, with no access to any resources whatsoever.
“Thankfully the support from the Commissioner has put us in a position where we can respond to this crisis.”
Mr Hogg visited the Trust today (Tuesday, December 22) to learn more about its work and help pack emergency food parcels.
