A BURGLARY victim has been reunited with stolen property after it was recovered by police.

Police were informed there had been a burglary at a house in Grasmere Avenue, in Easington Lane, on Wearside on Thursday, November 12.

Inquiries were carried out which led to the arrest and charge of two men.

During the burglary a television, hi-fi system and speakers, a jacket and vinyl records were stolen.

The television, some parts of the hi-fi system and vinyl records were recovered and returned to the victim.

Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Pescod, said: "It's great to be able to reunite victims with their property and we will always endeavour to identify the owners of stolen property when we recover items.

"Being broken into is distressing - it is not just the financial cost of being burgled that affects people but the emotional cost too and our priority is making sure action is taken to prevent burglaries."

Northumbria Police is currently running a month long campaign Beat The Burglar aimed at raising awareness of the action taken to tackle burglaries.

Edward Liddle, aged 35, of Tyne Street and Mark Scotter, aged 35, of Loweswater Avenue, both of Easington Lane, have been charged with burglary.
