AN EAST Durham cafe owner who encourages local artists and photographers to display work on his walls has introduced a new talent to customers.

Mark Milroy of The Lookout at Seaham Harbour Marina says he understands importance of engaging with the ever-growing talent base from his very own doorstep, including music nights held on the first Sunday of every month.

This month’s artist is Peter McCree Scott of Sunderland, who is the great-nephew of Thomas McCree Scott - the First World War and Durham Light Infantry official artist.

Peter’s great-uncle was known as The Soldier with the Pencil and was a member of the Royal Academy of Arts.

Many museums and art galleries nationally have examples of his work.

Mr Milroy said: “While Peter would be pleased to achieve only a fraction of that of his great-uncle Tom, he is happy painting iconic northern scenes which are close to his heart and heritage.

“Peter, whose paintings are largely sold through commissions to private collectors and businesses is delighted to have the opportunity to display some examples of his work locally.”

The Sunderland Antiquarian Society are the proud owners of Peter’s most well-known piece - Bridges Over The Wear which is on permanent view at 6 Douro Terrace, Sunderland.

The Lookout oil paintings will be on display until the end of January.
