A MAN was sentenced to four months in prison after admitting to trying to break into a workingmen’s club.

Lee Graham, 41, from Peterlee in County Durham, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary after smashing the window at Peterlee Central Club.

Christopher Baker, prosecuting, told Durham Crown Court that he had approached the club on the night of March 21 and used a bin to get access to the front window before smashing it and reaching into the building.

Graham, of York Road, then reached through the window, leaving his blood at the scene, but did not steal anything.

Judge Simon Hickey sentenced him to four months in prison. He said: “Nothing was taken but you have caused £404 worth of damage and a great deal of inconvenience and hassle.”

He was given four months in prison but is due for release as he has been in custody since March.

Michelle Maclean, 35, also of York Road, appeared at Durham Crown Court at the same time.

She admitted handling 60 euros, which the court heard had been stolen from an address in Peterlee on March 22. She was caught after trying to exchange the money at a post office.

She was handed a 12 month community order and made to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
