A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after his car left the road on the northbound carriageway of the A19 in east Durham.
Emergency services were alerted to the accident near Castle Eden, at about 2.15pm today (Thursday, October 1).
A doctor from the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) worked alongside the members of the North East Ambulance Service, Durham Police and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, as the injured man was cut free from his vehicle.

A GNAA spokesman said: “A man in his 40s, who suffered multiple injuries was extricated from the vehicle.
“After an assessment at the scene the patient was flown to the regional major trauma centre at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, with serious injuries.
"His condition was stable on arrival.”
The northbound carriageway was closed near to Hutton Henry and Castle Eden, while the scene was cleared.
The road reopened at 3.45pm.
