A DAY of family fun and and a chance to delve into the world of rock pooling is on offer as Durham Heritage Coast’s popular Low Tide Day event returns on Sunday (May 17).

Featuring a range of free games and activities, the sea-themed celebration includes a rock pool ramble on Seaham Hall Beach, giving children and adults alike the chance to find out more about the many interesting creatures inhabiting the coast.

There will also be live music from Murton’s John Wrightson Band, Punch and Judy, seaside songs for children, Tommy Craggs’ chainsaw carving, circus skills, face painting, crafts, medieval woodturning and the chance to meet some of the people who help look after the coast.

Durham Heritage Coast officer Niall Benson said: “As well as a chance to get involved in all kinds of fun and creative activities, it’s a chance for local people to meet the coastguard crew, Coast Watch and Seaham beach cleaning crew, who all do such a fantastic job of looking after us and our beautiful coast.”

Low Tide Day is at Seaham Hall Beach and Car Park between 10.30am and 3pm on Sunday (17 May).

The rock pool ramble begins at 10.30am and wellies are recommended.
