COLLEGE students won a bronze award at this year’s Harrogate Flower Show.

Floristry students from East Durham College won praise for their bakery-themed design, which featured floral cupcakes, biscuits and a wedding cake.

Lecturer Sue Lee said: “The students worked really hard on the idea for the design and on the individual pieces themselves to make this award display.

“There was a host of great displays and ideas shown by students from around the country in the category and it showed just how strong the standard of floristry education is nationwide.

“It was such a great event to be a part of and also for the students to visit and look around to get ideas for future displays they put together.”

The college’s floristry course is based at its Houghall campus, near Durham.

The display stand was made by staff and students from the college’s academy.
