FOUR student barbers from East Durham College have made it into the final 10 in a prestigious national competition.

Students Courtney Williams, 18, Sarah Grant, 30, Leanne Anderson, 20, and Andrew Boote, 20, have all made top 10 finishes, over two categories in the 2015 National Student Barber Competition qualifiers.

All the students have been selected in the top 10 of the Trends category with Courtney also reaching the final 10 for the Styling category.

The students worked on their models at East Durham College’s Peterlee Campus salon, then sent off photos of their creations which were judged amongst over 300 other entries.

The students are now preparing to travel to the Barber UK event at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena on Monday, May 11, were they will find out if they have placed in the top three.

This success continues what has already been a stellar year for the College’s Hair and Beauty department, which has already seen them pick up a number of awards and be named Best Overall College at the Regional AHT awards in Gateshead – for the third year in a row.

East Durham College barbering lecturer Alison Scattergood said: “I am very proud to see so many of our students selected in the top 10 for this fantastic national competition.
