GREAT-GRANDMOTHER Millicent Seargent has been celebrating her 100th birthday today (Wednesday, March 3).

The grandmother of four and great-grandmother of four, celebrated her big day with family at Field View Care Home in Blackhall Colliery, near Peterlee, County Durham.

She received birthday cards and flowers from family and a special 100th birthday card from the Queen, before being presented with a birthday cake.

Born on March 3, 1915, Mrs Seargent grew up in Easington before moving to Wheatley Hill, when she married her husband Jesse Seargent. Together they had two sons James and Jesse.

Mrs Seargent, a hardworking mother and home-worker, moved back to Easington Colliery later in life before moving into Field View Care Home, where she enjoys singing.

Her father Joseph lived until he was 91 years old.
