DOG walkers have been urged to take their pets for a walk at east Durham beauty spot in aid of a mayor’s charities.

Woof in the Woods will lead walkers through the Castle Eden Dene, in Peterlee, on Saturday March 21, with all proceeds going to the Peterlee Mayor’s Charity Appeal.

Mayor Cllr Don Milsom has chosen to support several charities active in Peterlee, including Help for Heroes, The Back Up Trust, Hartlepool and District Hospice, The Multiple Sclerosis Society, research into childhood MS and local youth groups.

Sponsored walk organiser David Taylor-Gooby said: “This is the first time we are staging this event and we hope that that as many people as possible will take part.

“It is a chance for dog walkers to support the Mayor’s Charity Appeal.”

There will be two walks. The Squirrel Walk, is about two miles long and involves some slopes. The other is level and is less than a mile. Walkers are invited to choose which one suits them and their dog.

Among those taking part will be Sharon Wood and her 12-year-old daughter Lucy who has multiple sclerosis.

Walkers will assemble at 10am on Saturday March 21, at the Dene Lodge, Stanhope Chase, Peterlee, SR8 1NJ.

Children under 12 years have to be accompanied by an adult.
