POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a crash in which a teenage cyclist was critically injured last week.
A Durham Police spokesman said the 16-year-old was cycling when he was struck by a silver Ford Focus at the junction of Burnhope Way and Passfield Way, Peterlee at 6.20pm on Wednesday January 28.
The spokesman said: “It is understood that the cyclist, who is from the Peterlee area, was cycling along Burnhope Way towards the roundabout, and crossed as the Ford Focus was exiting on to Passfield Way.
“He was taken to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, where his condition is described as critical but stable.”
The driver, a 39-year-old man from Thornley, and his passenger were both uninjured.
Investigators would like to speak with anybody who may have seen the collision, or seen the cyclist on Burnhope Way before the collision.
