FREEMASONS have given a helping hand to a support group for people with respiratory problems in east Durham.

The Durham Masonic Benevolent fund presented £500 to Breathewell, based at the Roseby Road Community Centre in Horden, near Peterlee.

Transport is provided for clients of Breathewell, who are socially isolated or who would have no other way of attending.

Once at the group, clients receive a two-course lunch, exercise and a chance to participate in arts and crafts and social activities.

Karen Beedle, respiratory specialist nurse at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are so grateful to receive this support, I have been supporting the group since it has started and it has gone from strength to strength.”

Brian Footitt, of the Durham Masonic Benevolent Fund, said: “It is such a pleasure to be able to support a group that has such an impact on people’s health and wellbeing.”
