BUSINESS at East Durham College’s very own travel agency shop is celebrating 100 days of trading with business booming worldwide.

EDC Travel, based at the college’s Peterlee campus in partnership with Hays Independence Group, is a fully ABTA bonded travel agency.

Since its opening the store has taken booking worldwide for staff, students and the local public.

Customers have booked up trips to destinations including Cape Verde, Munich, Tenerife, London, Fuerteventura, Dubai, Crete, The Lake District, Santorini, Turkey and Krakow.

The store is managed by Julie Heath, who has over 20 years experience in the industry, along with students from travel and tourism and business courses at the college, working in the store to pick up first-hand experience of the industry.

Ms Heath said: “These first 100 days have been an absolute whirlwind since we opened, we have been really busy.

“We have had a great response since we opened up and have booked our customers up on some fantastic holidays from close to home to far away.

“EDC Travel is a fantastic concept. As a full working travel agency we help to get these students work-ready as they leave college already having experienced what it’s like to work in a fully-licensed travel agency.”

EDC Travel is open to members of the public and is open from 10am to 6pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10am to 8pm Tuesday and Thursday.
