A NORTH-EAST community has turned out in strength to hunt for missing border collie cross who went missing weeks after being adopted.

Steve Taylor, of Houghton-le-Spring, said he was growing increasingly anxious for the safe return of Cara, who went missing at Nose’s Point, Seaham, east Durham on Monday.

Mr Taylor said: “I adopted Cara from the Dogs Trust in Darlington.

“I only had he three weeks and was walking her on beach when she was spooked by the waves and ran off. She was last seen running toward Easington Village.”

Mr Taylor said there had been several confirmed sightings of Cara, between Cold Hesleden and Easington – in an area between the B1432 and A19.

She was last seen on Thursday on the A19 southbound carriageway heading north.

Mr Taylor said thousands of people had responded to postings on Facebook and Twitter.

A large search party set out from Easington Greyhound Stadium this morning (Saturday, December 6) to scour the area.

Mr Taylor said: “She is an extremely nervous dog and will be difficult to approach.

“She is not aggressive and enjoys being petted and food if you can get close enough to gain her confidence.”

Cara is wearing Dogs Trust collar.
