YOUNGSTERS got an insight into the world of politics from one of the region’s biggest political figures.
Lord Wrigglesworth, the Stockton-born politician who is treasurer of the Liberal Democrats, spoke to youngsters at Acre Rigg Academy, Peterlee, County Durham.
His visit coincided with studies the school is doing during Parliament Week.
The 74-year-old was MP in Stockton for several years and later served as chairman of the Liberal Democrats.
Third-year teacher Gurpreet Jagpal, who arranged the visit, said: “The children learned about what his role is as a Lord, what Parliament is about and what happens in Parliament.
There was a question and answer session.
“He was telling us he was born in Stockton, his dad was a milkman, he was a school teacher and then he was an MP, then a Sir and then a Lord.
“The School Council are going to the Houses of Parliament in January.
“It was an honour to have him in and it showed the children what you can aspire to be. They learned a lot more about Parliament and how decisions are made.”
