FLESH-EATING zombies will take over college grounds for what has become an annual Halloween spectacular.

Dozens of students will take part in East Durham College’s Zombie Run, being staged at Houghall Campus in Durham on Friday, October 24.

Loosely based on the film 28 Days Later, groups of 10 participants pay to be chased through the trees by gruesome zombies as they try to reach a safe zone.

This is the second zombie run event Houghall has hosted and buses are being laid on from Peterlee at 7pm and Seaham at 7.30pm to bring participants to take part in the challenge.

Billy Nicholson, performing arts lecturer at the college, said: “We had an amazing response last year after we hosted the North-East’s very first zombie run, the event was a huge success.

“So we decided again with Halloween coming up it would be a fantastic idea to bring set up another event, once again turning our Houghall site into a frightening maze taken over by the undead”.

He added: “We have over 100 of our students involved. Along with the performing arts students taking part, the hair and beauty students will be doing some gruesome make-up to create our zombies and they just can’t wait to bring it all together on the night.

“The make-up work that has been trialled by the hair and beauty students is great and looks truly terrifying.”

The event is aimed at people aged 14-plus and costs £8 per person, which includes return transport, access to the event, a zombie-run t-shirt and a gig after the event.
