A CHARITY worker is taking a leap from a plane in aid of the hospice she works for.

Claire Longworth, from Craghead, is taking part in the sky dive for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, which is holding the event as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations.

Ms Longworth, a retail supervisor at the hospice’s shop in Langley Moor, said: “I decided at the beginning of this year I wanted to get involved in fundraising for St Cuthbert’s in celebration of their 30th anniversary.

“What better way to do it than at 10,000 feet.

“I hope to raise funds for the hospice to help them continue the amazing work they do. Every penny raised will go to help people in Durham with life limiting illness and their families.”

It takes place on June 30 and the charity is hoping to get 30 people to take part.

There are four spaces left and anyone interested in signing up should call 0191 386 1170 ext. 5.

In 2016 she raised money for the hospice by shaving her head, which she did after undergoing neurosurgery as part of treatment for hydrocephalus, a brain condition which was triggered by childhood meningitis.

She added: “When I shaved my head I had wanted to turn my treatment into something positive and that would help others. I am very much looking forward to the sky dive and feel this will be a big achievement for me personally.

“Everyone thinks I’m crazy doing all these things but I know it’s for such a worthwhile cause and that’s what keeps me motivated.”
