A STEAK house has been revealed as the latest restaurant set to open in Durham as part of a £150m development in Durham city.

Miller & Carter, which has venues in Newcastle and Sunderland, has said it wants to open at Milburngate, on Durham’s riverbanks.

The opening of the 5,200 sq ft restaurant is expected to create around 30 jobs.

The former passport office site is being redeveloped by Arlington Real Estate and the Richardson family.

Allan Cook, managing director of Arlington Real Estate, said: “Miller & Carter is renowned for locating its restaurants in unique and visually-impressive buildings, meaning it’s a perfect fit for Milburngate.

“We continue to actively engage with quality brands like Miller & Carter to ensure Milburngate meets our ambition for it to become the finest retail and leisure destination in the North-East.”

The development, which is meant to be complete by 2020, will also include an Everyman cinema, Pitcher and Piano bar, Premier Inn and steak restaurant Bar + Block.
