ORGANISERS are getting ready for the 185th Durham Regatta.

The annual event, which takes place on June 9-10, will feature two days of racing on the River Wear as well as family entertainment, the annual classic car show, a fun fair and music.

Local magician Paul Dewhurst, a Punch and Judy show, facepainting, a bubbleologist and street theatre duo Bell and Bullock will provide entertainment.

There will also be an Army Cadets climbing wall, inflatable assault course and performances by local bands, including Pittington Brass.

On the Saturday, people will also be able to meet members of the Team Tyne Innovation, who are preparing to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean later this year.

Founded in 1834, the event is the second oldest regatta in the country.

Entries are due to open shortly for the rowing events, which attracts crews from all over the North-East and further afield.

Last year around 1,400 rowers took part, while 10,000 spectators cheered them on.
