A HOT air balloon festival is set to take place for the second time in May.

Balloon InDurham returns to the city from Friday, May 25 to Monday, May 28.

Adam Death, from event organiser Durham Business Improvement District (Bid), said: “Last year Balloons InDurham was a huge success, seeing in excess of 20,000 people come into the city to watch the hot air balloons and stunning night glow.

“As with any firsts, it’s always a learning curve, and so we’ve taken feedback on board from visitors to the event in 2017 and are working hard to finalise plans to ensure that this year’s Balloons InDurham is even bigger and better than ever before.”

The event will include early morning and evening launches from East Durham College Houghall Campus and tethered balloons on Palace Green, in the city centre.

Last year the festival was affected by wind, with several launches cancelled.

Scott Hillary, from production company AH Events, said: “We learned a lot from our experiences last year, especially how unpredictable the weather can be.This year, we’re making sure that whatever the weather, there’ll be plenty for families to see and do during the course of the festival.”
