TWO charities have been closed with their remaining funds transferred to other organisations.
The charities were run by the old City of Durham Council, which was abolished in 2009, and were closed by members of Durham County Council’s cabinet, at a special meeting held in private.
John Hewitt, director of resources, said: “Earlier this week, cabinet members, sitting in their capacity as trustees, approved a decision to close two old City of Durham Council charities which have very limited funds and to transfer the balances to those with similar objectives.”
The Mayoress of Durham Fund, started with a war bond at the end of the First World War, had a balance of £61.75, which will be transferred to Veterans at Ease.
The Unknown Donor’s Fund, which had £127.25, is being donated to the City of Durham Foodbank.
