POLICE are appealing for witnesses following after a crash that closed a motorway in both directions.
The incident happened at around 3pm yesterday on the A1(M) at junction 61 – 60 southbound, Bowburn Interchange and involved a red Seat Ibiza.
"The vehicle was travelling south, approximately one mile from Junction 61 when it collided with the nearside barrier," said Durham Police.
"The driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was air lifted to James Cook University Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition."
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101 quoting incident number 240 of February 22.
