TWO students will be presenting their work in Parliament as a part of a national research competition.

James Parkin and Richard Hall, who are both students at New College Durham, will be competing against universities and further education colleges from all over the country.

It is the first time the college in Framwellgate Moor has taken part in the competition and it is one of just four further education colleges to be involved.

Phillip Miller, HE college scholarship manager said: “Having attended the posters in parliament event in 2017, I was incredibly impressed by not just the standard of work on display but also the knowledge, passion and enthusiasm of each of the student participants.

“College higher education was, however, under-represented. Getting New College Durham involved therefore represented an opportunity to showcase the high quality work which is being produced within our institution and colleges in general.”

The students will be up against others from top universities, including York, Warwick and Leeds.

Visual Arts student James, 19, said: “I chose to enter the competition because I saw it as a unique opportunity to showcase my work, and share what I am passionate about with others from different fields.

“I really didn’t expect to be taking my first piece of research to parliament! It still hasn’t sunk in that I am competing in a national competition.”

Richard, who is doing a BSc in sports and exercise development, said: “I feel honoured to have been chosen to take part in the poster in parliament competition.”
