A SURVEY is being published in order to understand why people visit and shop in Durham.

The retail survey is being conducted by Durham County Council, in partnership with Durham Business Improvement District (BID), and is being promoted through the council’s webpage and corporate social media accounts.

Councillor Carl Marshall, the council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, said: “Evidence suggests that a prosperous Durham City will help to deliver an improvement in the county’s economic performance and will complement our approach in supporting growth and regeneration across all areas of the county.

“The increased employment will in turn lead to and unlock other developments in and around the city, as well as providing more jobs and business opportunities for residents and businesses across the wider towns in the county.

“In order to create the right environment to realise this potential, we need to understand how and why people visit Durham City, and how retail trends and facilities in the city are currently performing.

“This market intelligence will provide us with up to date information from those who visit and shop in the city and will inform a wider appraisal of the city, helping us to provide the right environment to further attract retailers.

“In a nutshell, we want to know why you do or don’t visit or shop in the city.”
