AN elderly man has died from his injuries after he was struck by a car.

The fatal collision happened at around 2.15pm on Thursday when a red Ford Fiesta collided with the 88-year-old.

It happened on Victoria Road West near to the junction of South Drive in Hebburn in South Tyneside.

Emergency services responded and the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since died.

Northumbria Police has launched an investigation.

A force spokesman said: “The driver was spoken to by officers at the scene. They were not injured but left very shaken by the incident.

“The road was closed for approximately two hours to allow officers to carry out their investigation.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“Officers particularly want to speak to any motorists who were driving in the area at the time and may have dashboard footage that can be reviewed by police.”
