RAIL commuters travelling between Darlington and Durham faced long delays on Wednesday morning due to a broken down train.

Cross Country, Northern, TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains East Coast services were affected for several hours while engineers worked to get the train moving.

The disruption was cleared at approximately 9.15am.

National Rail tweeted: "The broken down train between Darlington and #Durham is on the move and trains between the stations are now running normally."
