CALLS have been made to pull down a wall at the back of a student house in Durham’s conservation area following concerns it is not in keeping with it’s heritage.

Robinsons has applied for retrospective permission for the wall to the rear of a property in Nevilledale Terrace, which has been constructed using concrete rendering.

Neville’s Cross councillor Liz Brown said: “Rendering is the cheap alternative to take the wall down and rebuilding it in a manner sympathetic to the area.

“May I ask that the wall be demolished and rebuilt with bricks in keeping with the Victorian heritage.”

The estate agent had carried out the work to the wall because it says it was in a dangerous state of repair.

A number of concerns have been raised in recent months relating to materials used in additions to houses in the conservation area.
