A QUIRKY concert venue is staging a series of Autumn shows in its unique and intimate setting.

The Old Cinema Launderette, in Sunderland Road, Gilesgate Moor, Durham, features in a joint three-day festival with the city’s Gala Theatre over the weekend, as part of a longer autumn season of gigs.

By day a working launderette, by night it has earned a following as an off-beat setting for musical performances over the last six years.

Mid-West musician John Murry performs at the Marshall Place laundry tomorrow, with indie pop player Andrew Wasylyk following on Sunday.

Folk trio The Rubber Wellies top the bill on Friday October 6, followed by singer John Craigie, the next night.

Other names to appear in coming weeks are British singer-songwriter Vic Godard, Canadian country rockers Harrow Fair, acoustic and electronic folk artist Harri Endersby and guitar legend John Otway.

Further details of this weekend’s festival are available via www.galadurham.co.uk, on the launderette’s Facebook site, or by ringing 0191-384 1412.
