A JAZZ band will be raising the rafters during a fundraising concert at Durham Cathedral.

Friends of Durham Cathedral will be hosting Maureen Hall and the Rendezvous Traditional Jazz Band at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 19.

Friends vice-president Mike McMinn said: “We look forward to welcoming Rendezvous Jazz.

“They are a successful North-East jazz band and promise an exciting evening of expressive and foot-tapping entertainment.”

Maureen Hall has been part of the North-East jazz scene for over 15 years, and in 1999 fulfilled her ambition of founding her own band, Rendezvous Jazz.

Her expressive vocals and the talents of the instrumentalists have ensured they have developed a wide local following. The group offers a diverse repertoire, including traditional, New Orleans and Dixieland jazz, blues, ballads, and gospel styles.

Maureen said: “As far as we know, our style of music has never before been played in the cathedral, at least not as a full evening concert, so we are thrilled and delighted at this honour and privilege.”

The Friends organisation works hard to raise funds for cathedral projects, ranging from upkeep of the building’s facilities, to contributing to maintaining public access to priceless cultural artefacts.
