DRIVERS are being warned to expect disruption when two major road resurfacing schemes take place.

Work in Durham City and Lanchester will mean temporary road closures over the next few weeks.

In Durham, a 150-metre stretch of Whitesmocks/North Road will be closed from Sunday at 7am until Wednesday.

The road will be shut from the junction with the A167 to North End House, along with a short stretch of Fieldhouse Lane.

A signposted diversion will be in place taking motorists from the A167 northwards to Sniperley and then along the A691 Southfield Way to County Hall.

The following week will see four days of work start in Station Road, Lanchester which will require phased closures.

Resurfacing will start on Thursday, August 10 on the junction with the A691, with traffic diverted via Front Street.

On Friday and Saturday, Station Road will be closed from the A691 Durham Road junction to the junction with the B6296 and B6301 and traffic will be diverted via either Langley Park or Hurbuck Cottages.

The final phase will take place on Sunday, August 13 August, when a short section of Front Street to the junction with Station Road will be closed.

John Reed, from Durham County Council, said: “We appreciate that these works may cause some disruption for motorists.

“We have planned schemes to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum, with overnight working in some areas, but would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.”
