THE future of a city centre restaurant is in doubt as its lease is due to expire later this year.

Cafe Rouge is carrying out a review of its restaurant in Durham, which is in Silver Street, close to Framwelgate Bridge.

The French-style restaurant has been a fixture on Durham’s high street for almost ten years.

The national chain is now considering the options for the site, as the lease expires in the autumn.

A review is being carried out over the summer.

A spokesperson for Café Rouge said: “We are currently assessing the options for our site in Durham as the lease expires in the autumn, and will conclude our review by the end of the summer.

“The decision we make will be based on a number of variable factors, such as rent and business rate increases.”

It opened in 2008.
