A TV historian and broadcaster will be giving a talk about one of the North-East’s best-loved Saints.

Dr Janina Ramirez is visiting Durham Cathedral for a talk about St Cuthbert.

The special event is being held as the cathedral opens its exhibition of the Treasures of St Cuthbert on Saturday, July 29.

Treasures including the saint’s Anglo-Saxon wooden coffin, his gold and garnet pectoral cross, ivory comb, portable altar, and 10th-century embroidered vestments gifted to St Cuthbert’s Shrine will be going on permanent display after six years in storage.

Dr Ramirez will be explaining how the artifacts contribute to our understanding of Anglo-Saxon art, culture and religion.

  • The event will be held in the medieval Chapter House at 11am on Saturday 29 July. Tickets cost £10 (£8 concessions) and advance booking is recommended by calling 0191 338 7178.
  • Attendees will get a 10 per cent discount to the exhibition.
