AROUND 160 runners are to take part in a woodland trail race under the watchful gaze of a mining sculpture.
The Willow Miner Trail Race, organised by local running club Elvet Striders, will take place on Wednesday evening.
The 5.3-mile race sets off at 7pm from Houghall College along a path through Great High Wood up to the Willow Miner, a sculpture overlooking the former Croxdale Pit, and back
Organiser Jonathan Hamill said: “We are particularly pleased to recognise the Willow Miner in our race name, and are delighted that Sylvan Skills who created the Willow Miner have ensured he is in prime condition for the event.
“We look forward to what will be a superb evening of racing, showcasing some of Durham’s finest trails.”
This year’s race will raise money for The Woodland Trust, and St Cuthbert’s Hospice.
